USA - Day 71 - Las Cruces to Tucson

Time to leave Las Cruces and head South to Tucson. Leaving the beautiful mountains of one city for another, we crossed the Rio Grande again then drove past a huge Roadrunner statue on a hill. The national fauna emblem of New Mexico, the Roadrunner, has eluded me this trip, though Kent says he saw one in the carpark of our digs in Albuquerque. Further down the highway, we drove through varied landscapes including deserts and mountain ranges. We were stopped at border control (the highway is barricaded off so no-one can skip it) and we passed the checkpoint, so allowed to continue on our way. There were lots of warnings about dust storms and possible zero visibility, but didn't eventuate. We crossed the state line into Arizona and finally arrived in Tucson late in the day. Our digs for the next two nights has lovely adobe buildings and Spanish/Mexican decor.
